Cardiopulmonary Bypass Temperature

چکیده
Study objective: To determine if temperature during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has an effect on peri¬ operative and postoperative thyroid function. Design: Prospective study comparing thyroid function duringand afterhypothermicandnormothermic CPB. Setting: Cardiac surgical unit at a university-affiliated hospital. Patients: Twelve patients scheduled to undergo car¬ diac operations with normothermic (n=6) or hypothermic (n=6) CPB. Interventions: Blood was analyzed for serum concen¬ tration of total thyroxine (TT4), total triiodothyronine (TTs), free T3 (1T3), reverse T3 (rT3), and thyroid stim¬ ulating hormone (TSH) preoperatively, 60 min after

Problems of Cold Agglutinins in Cardiac Surgery: How to Manage Cardiopulmonary Bypass and Myocardial Protection
Cold agglutinins are of unique relevance in cardiac surgerybecause of the use of hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Cold autoimmune diseases are defined by the presence of abnormal circulating proteins (usually IgM or IgA antibodies) that agglutinate in response to a decrease in body temperature. These disorders include cryoglobulinemia and cold hemagglutinin disease.Immunoglobulin M aut...
متن کاملEffect of temperature and cardiopulmonary bypass on the pharmacokinetics of remifentanil.
Sixteen patients undergoing coronary revascularization requiring cardiopulmonary bypass received remifentanil 2 micrograms kg-1 or 5 micrograms kg-1 by infusion over 1 min after sternotomy but before commencing cardiopulmonary bypass, during hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass and during cardiopulmonary bypass after rewarming. Hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass reduced the clearance of remifenta...
متن کاملAxillary and tympanic membrane temperature measurements are unreliable early after cardiopulmonary bypass.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Inaccurate measurements of body temperature following cardiopulmonary bypass may be associated with serious complications. The purpose of this study was to determine whether axillary and tympanic temperature measurements correlate with the urinary bladder temperature in the early postcardiac surgery period. METHODS Forty-nine adult patients who underwent cardiac surge...
متن کاملDuring Hypothermic Cardiopulmonary Bypass-Correlation with Oxyhemoglobin Saturation
In 8 adult patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass, the perfusion flow was altered from 2.4 to 1.8 and 1.2 L/min/m during hypothermia (26.5 ± 2.3°C). Following rewarming of the patients to 37°C, the perfusion flow was also altered from 2.4 to 1.8 and 1.2 L/min/m • The resulting mixed venous oxyhemoglobin saturation (Sv0 2 ) was measured in vivo by in-line oximetry at the actual body temperat...

To improve our understanding of the evidence-based literature supporting temperature management during adult cardiopulmonary bypass, The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology and the American Society of ExtraCorporeal Technology tasked the authors to conduct a review of the peer-reviewed literature, including 1) optimal site for temperature monitoring, 2) av...
متن کاملA comparison of laboratory findings in coronary artery bypass surgery with and without cardiopulmonary bypass
Background : Quests for doing coronary artery bypass surgery by a technique with lower complications is going on, for this aim many studies compared patients undergoing CABG with or without cardiopulmonary bypass. This study was carried out to compare laboratory findings after coronary artery bypass in these two groups of patients. Materials and Methods: In a retrospective study, 167 patients ...
